White Oak is the traditional material that was used in Japan for bokken.  The tighter grain and much more dense wood structure makes it far and away superior to the common Red Oak varieties seen on the market today.  We have found stronger materials and even have gone so far as to make custom bokken, but at a price that was exponentially higher with only a small gain in strength.  Therefore, we feel these white oak bokken are the best compromise for a good strong training weapon that will last for years at a low price.
