These naginata come from the fine people at CAS Iberia and Paul Chen/Hanwei blades as well, and share all the quality and attention to detail the swords do. These retail for $735.00.

The naginata comes with a cloth bag and a saya (scabbard) for the blade. The longer tang is mounted solidly in the one-piece shaft to absorb shock from cutting very well. The shaft is 55" long while the blade is 22" long, for a total overall length of 77".

The blade of the naginata is hand forged from 1065 high-carbon steel and differentially tempered using the traditional claying method. As with the swords, this gives not only the beautiful hamon (temper line) but, more importantly, a very hard edge (Rc 60) and a softer more resilient body and back of the blade (Rc 40).

The tsuba (guard) and mountings include a finely engraved silver butterfly motif.

The ishizuki (end cap/weight) is of the ax style, and matches the motif of the rest of the fittings. The traditional teardrop cross-section of the staff is also evident here, which makes it easy to know the blade orientation just by feel.

As with all of the finer Hanwei blades, the naginata includes a traditional cleaning kit for proper maintenance of the blade.
