Founded in February of 2004, the Jinenkan Seigi Dojo strives to provide the most comprehensive reality-based traditional Japanese martial arts training in middle Tennessee. Training is hard, both physically and mentally, as it should be. We do not compete in tournaments or competitions as all of our techniques were developed and proven on the battlefields of feudal Japan, and when done properly, will leave your attacker physically broken. We will not water down the techniques so they may safely be used in a tournament setting. By doing so you would be training to do the techniques in a way that is much too ineffective and “easy” on your opponent, and will simply not work when you really need it.
Training is also not something you will learn overnight, or master in a year or two. These are not just a few simple techniques that work against an unskilled, unsuspecting attacker, but a complete and comprehensive system that will work all the time, in any situation, against any opponent, no matter what. That is not to say that many of even our new students are not able to immediately put into use small parts of their training (such as ukemi or basic strike avoidance), but that we train for every eventuality, and the more you learn the more you will realize how little you really know. That is why all of us here (instructors included) are eternal students, constantly striving to better themselves, and lending a helping hand to those who would do the same.
